Newly opened building serves as venue for One Tree Hill wedding

Wilmington, N.C. (February 3, 2011) – The Wilmington Convention Center, North Carolina’s “New Center of Attention,” made its television debut during the much-anticipated wedding celebration of One Tree Hill’s Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and Julian Baker (Austin Nichols) on the February 1 airing of the CW television series (Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT ). Not only was the event a special One Tree Hill moment for fans, but the filming also marked the building’s first wedding reception.

Wilmington is known as “Hollywood East” for its impressive backdrop featured in many films and television shows, including Warner Bros. Television’s One Tree Hill, which is now in its eighth season. The newly opened convention center’s 12,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom served as the set for the reception.  Located along the Cape Fear River and historic downtown Riverwalk, the building boasts 107,000 square feet and features a variety of meeting spaces capable of hosting groups of 25 to 2,000.

“We appreciate the support of the cast and crew of One Tree Hill, especially Mr. Stacy Barnhill, Assistant Locations Manager, who facilitated every detail,” said Wilmington Convention Center General Manager, Susan Eaton. “It’s an honor for us to be a part of such a memorable TV moment, and the show helps promote the charm and beauty of this area as well as our capacity to host any event, from weddings to trade shows or major conventions.”

In addition to the Grand Ballroom, the Wilmington Convention Center features a 30,000-squre-foot Exhibit Hall, over 15,000 square feet of pre-function space and nearly 6,000 square feet of additional meeting space with the option to divide it into eight separate rooms. In addition, the 12,000-square-foot waterfront event lawn along the Cape Fear River creates an idyllic space for outdoor events, including wedding ceremonies and receptions.  The building offers SAVOR…Wilmington Catering, a full in-house catering service dedicated to using the finest and freshest locally grown foods and the spirit of fine southern cuisine.

The Wilmington Convention Center sits within walking distance of local hotels, B&Bs, and an array of upscale dining establishments, and more than 200 restaurants, shops and attractions. Three nationally recognized beaches (Carolina, Kure and Wrightsville) are only a short drive from the city.  The area is home to nearly 8,000 hotel rooms and suites with views ranging from the river to the sea.
