Wilmington Convention Center Celebrates Weddings in Style

Wilmington, N.C. (April 19, 2011)— The Wilmington Convention Center combines Wilmington’s historic charm and modern beauty with breathtaking views of the Cape Fear River to create an idyllic setting for any wedding celebration.

Located along the Cape Fear River and historic downtown Riverwalk, the newly opened convention center features a variety of spaces capable of hosting ceremonies and receptions for 25 to 2,000. Exchange your vows and enjoy the riverfront view on the 12,000-square-foot waterfront event lawn or celebrate the night away in our Grand Ballroom under illuminating chandeliers and enjoy the building’s sophisticated and sleek maritime theme and décor.

The building’s 12,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, which can be divided into six separate rooms, recently served as the set for the much-anticipated wedding reception of One Tree Hill’s Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and Julian Baker (Austin Nichols) on the February 1 episode of the CW television series.

“We opened our doors with the Cape Fear Wedding Show in November, and we kicked off the wedding season with our television debut,” said Wilmington Convention Center General Manager, Susan Eaton. “It’s an honor to be part of any wedding celebration, and we look forward to helping couples celebrate their special day.  With waterfront views and stylish décor, the convention center offers the perfect backdrop and venue for making memories that will last a lifetime.”

The convention center works hand-in-hand with brides and wedding planners to ensure that their special day is as perfect and stress-free as possible.  Décor options specifically designed to enhance the atmosphere within each of the event spaces are available and can provide a tailored look for any ceremony or reception.  For example, a mobile pergola is available for couples to adorn with flowers for an enchanting “I do” setting along with vases, mirrors and romantic candles for tabletop designs. If desired, top-of-the-line linens, chair covers and a large dance floor are available through the convention center as well. The staff maintains strong relationships with local vendors and can recommend leading photographers, florists, stationers and more.

The Wilmington Convention Center also offers Savor…Wilmington Catering, a full in-house catering service by SMG. With multiple dining options, SAVOR caters to all needs and tastes while maintaining menus distinctive to each bride and groom.

SAVOR offers Something Borrowed, Something New and Something Blue dinner packages, each featuring an array of fine southern cuisine with passed hors d’oeuvres and multiple entrees accompanied by a custom-designed wedding cake as well as chocolate covered strawberries and truffles. Other options include Simply Love, the buffet dinner package and Endless Love, the hors d’oeuvres package. Chef attended stations can also be customized along with a decadent dessert display, and beverage and bar packages are tailored to each event.

A Bridal Suite is available for the bride and her bridesmaids to unwind and pamper themselves, featuring a champagne station, tea sandwiches and a selection of delectable desserts. The Groomsmen Suite offers beer tasting of local brews and a few of the groom’s favorites including buffalo wings, meatballs and chicken satay.

Boasting 107,000 square feet, North Carolina’s largest coastal convention center also offers a 30,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall, over 15,000 square feet of pre-function space and nearly 6,000 square feet of additional space with options to divide it into eight separate rooms. Additional features include a 578-space parking deck, loading docks, ramp with Exhibit Hall access, 30-foot ceilings and unique lighting systems.

In addition, the Wilmington/Cape Fear Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Services Department can provide visitor information and assist the wedding party and guests with finding suitable accommodations. The area has easy access to three beach communities (Carolina, Kure and Wrightsville) and is home to nearly 8,000 hotel rooms and suites with unique settings ranging from the river to the sea to cater to every guest’s needs.
