WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –
A new hotel is in the works for downtown Wilmington.
According to a news release, developers are planning to build a 125-room hotel and incorporate it into the existing Coastline Conference and Event Center located at 501 Nutt Street.
The $25 million hotel will rise six stories about the historic Coastline Railroad Warehouse and will feature a rooftop courtyard with fire pit and bistro. The ground floor will have a full-service restaurant, fitness center, outdoor pool, and 7,000-square-feet of meeting space.
Poteat Hospitality Associates, LLC and Big Dawg, LLC, the operator of the Best Western Coastline Inn in Wilmington, have been approved for an Aloft Hotel franchise by Starwood Hotels.
Based in Laurinburg, Poteat Hospitality operates eight hotels across North Carolina.
Poteat Hospitality was one of six firms that submitted plans in 2014 to redevelop the Water Street Parking Deck into a mixed-use site. City leaders eventually went with East-West Partners out of Chapel Hill for that project.
A $33.6 million, 186-room Embassy Suites Hotel will also be built adjacent to the nearby Wilmington Convention Center.
